Pollinator meadows, food for everyone
One of the key roles of honey meadows is their ability to support our native pollinators. Insects such as certain flies, bees, butterflies, and even wasps play a vital role in our ecosystem. By transferring pollen from one flower to another, these pollinators enable plant reproduction. This process is essential for the production of many fruits and vegetables we consume, especially those in Quebec.
Therefore, honey meadows are not only biodiversity havens but also crucial to our local agriculture and food security. By cultivating and preserving these areas, we help maintain an essential ecological balance while enjoying the benefits they bring to our daily lives.
Many of our honey meadow projects are made possible through the work and vision of Embranchement. This team focuses on creating habitats that support biodiversity, employing gentle methods, and interacting thoughtfully with all species.
Châteaufort Community Garden Slope (Phase 1)
The landscaping of this slope provides an enchanting sight, with numerous pollinators enjoying a wide variety of carefully selected plants. This initiative also benefits our gardeners, as an increased number of pollinators can enhance the production of fruits and vegetables through their efforts.
Châteaufort Community Garden Slope (Phase 2)
In 2023, the team at Embranchement designed and executed a second phase of the project. Building on the conservation efforts of Phase 1, the main goal of this phase was to enhance the benefits for the area's biodiversity. Eighteen trees, eighteen shrubs, and fifteen birdhouses were added among the existing vegetation to provide refuge for the abundant wildlife near Mount Royal. Garden users and other visitors are invited to explore the area via a discreet path made from natural materials.
Nature Spaces at the Gingras-Lindsay Rehabilitation Institute of Montreal (IRGLM)
Since 2019, honey gardens have been added to the grounds of this CIUSSS to create a more welcoming environment for both the patients and the staff of the institute.
